Height to top slot?

I was all set to get the Sunshine Radian for my MIL's new van, then she told me she's getting a Sienna!! I'll have to check to see if it will have Captains chairs in the 3rd row (where my oldest son will be)...but if not, can someone tell me the height to the top slot of these seats - Apex 65 and Safeguard GO? He's in a Marathon at the moment and has about 1.5" before he hits the tops slot. We're moving him to a Husky tomorrow in our van and the Marathon is getting passed down. We can't afford a Regent because we're having to buy three seats for her van. My oldest son is 5 and 43", about 46lbs.

Thanks!

Ginnie

The Radian is 18", the Apex either 17" (more common) or 19", and the Go is about the same height as the Marathon, about 17".

Apex 17.5" $100-$130 (depending on model) on-line w/free shipping

SafeGuard Seat 19.5" $449

These 2 seats are listed on the link below:

SafeGuard Go 17" $199

This info is on the manufacturer's web-site:

The Apex is the cheapest, but it is rather flimsy and requires that there be a head rest behind the top of the car seat since the seat itself is not reinforced. Also, the Apex does not have EPS foam and if FF only.

IMO the Radian is the best value out of these seats. This is the only one of the bunch that is a convertible and can rear face. This seat has EPS foam and is narrow which is great for multiple seats in one row.

The SafeGuard Seat has higher slots than the Radian, but you have to pay nearly $300 more for the extra 1.5" over the Radian. The Regent has 20" top slot for $250 online which would be a better bargain for the money vs the SafeGuard Seat.

HTH :)

Yes, that's why I was asking about the other two seats and their slot height. :) I saw that you had trouble with it in the Sienna. Was it a bench seat or a captains chair in the back?

I've heard the Radian's don't fit in the 3rd row of the Sienna, which is why I'm looking at the other seats. Yeah, if it was my car I'd get the Regent for sure (he's actually in a Husky in my van). But I can't afford another one, and this is for MIL's car that he will use maybe once a week for the 3 mile drive to and from her house. It doesn't have to be comfy, it just has to be safe! I'm positive she'll have head rests though, so the Apex should probably be fine. I'm actually hoping she changes her mind on the van model, she's been waffling between the Sienna and the Odyssey. Thanks for the help!

The newer Apexes DO have EPS foam in them. The tan one I bought at BRU did.
