How do you read it?

I think that means that if it passes, either in Fall or Winter they may up the limit even more.

But if they made it retroactive once without any changes, I'm betting they might do it again. So if you buy now, you'd be betting on no more structural changes; I think it's likely they won't make any IF it passes to a higher weight without them.

You bring up a good point ketchupqueen. How many changes has the radian gone through?

Changes made on or around Sept 08.
new rear-facing boot
steel bars on the sides
removable harness
chest clip (kind of around there, the Oct 08 I had came with the old one).
two little pieces on the back where there is no foam (munchkin and I think this is where the headwings attach for the XT).
grippy things on the bottom (thanks ketchupqueen!)

Changes made before Sept 08 that i can think of

adding the safe stop
changing the weight limit of safe stop
adding the indentation in the back so the straps could be adjusted easier.

Any other changes that I'm missing?

Rubber grippies on the bottom. But of those, I think the important STRUCTURAL change was the reinforcement bars in the back/side. Possibly the boot design but I don't think so. I mean, others are structural too, but I think that the reinforcement on the back/side is probably what enabled the higher RF weight limit to be considered.

Considering how long Russ told us that testing to 40# was in the works, I would keep in mind that the email was written by a marketing guy who loves his Radians. I'd also keep in mind that testing doesn't guarantee passing. I'm a Radian and SK fan, so the above isn't bashing -- but I wouldn't shop now with the "plan" that seats will be certified higher and retroactively in a few months.

Here's the question for you though..... Can you get the newer RN to install well RF in the Sienna??? It's been my finding that only the old boot can, and only outboard. If anyone can get the new boot RN to RF in my van (center or outboard), I'll give them a prize :D Though....I haven't tried shoving an old boot on a new RN.

Muchkin and I played with it for an hour and a half last night and we got it to work!

What we ended up doing was using the seat belt, flipping the seat forward and letting it click a few times and then forcing the seat back again. It was too reclined the first time but is now rock solid and a good angle! :D

oooooooh. center or outboard??? and seatbelt was better than latch? did u lock the retractor or use lc?

ETA- duh, i just realized the clicking u meant was the retractor not the seatback.

Wait, the newer one doesn't work well in the Sienna????? I have an 8 passenger though so the seats are probably different from yours....I never tried our older on rfing bc of the child using it. The one who would use it is center row outboard....

I have an 8 seater. I think it should be fine as long as you do the same thing that Muchkin and I did. Another poster said it did fine fine rear-facing in the third row.

I also find it hard to install forward facing and just last week noticed that all of a sudden it was loose. It is a good reminder to give seats a shake everyone once in a while to make sure they didn't get loose over time.

I've only installed the radian in the third row and it installs just fine with the seatbelt on the 60 bench. I make the back of the bench go down, install super tight, then bring the back to where it should be.
