Can you someone talk me down about having to use LATCH?

I'm a seatbelt girl. Always have been. I just figured they were stronger and thus, better for carseat installation. In order to get my Radian XT in the middle of the second row of our CRV, I had to use LATCH. It just wouldn't work with the seatbelt, despite trying all the tricks. Sigh. It is now quite solid, and upright for a radian. Definitely a superior installation.

So, if I remember correctly, LATCH is tested as an OVERALL weight limit of 65 pounds (child + seat), correct? The XT is 25.5-26 pounds + DD who is 32 at the moment. So should I stop using LATCH when DD hits 39 pounds? And should I feel confident about using it AT that 65 pound limit? Make me feel good about this please.

ETA: I really can write thread titles. Just apparently not after arguing with a Radian for 2 hours. :)

You need to follow the recommendations of the car seat and the vehicle manufacturer. The Radian has a 48 lb limit on LATCH, and Honda has a 40 lb limit on LATCH. You must discontinue use of LATCH at 40 lbs.

LATCH is perfectly safe.

That's 40 pounds child weight. Ignore the weight of the carseat. Since your daughter is 32 pounds, you can use LATCH for 8 more pounds.

What year is your CRV? Unless it has a fifth anchor it's not approved to use LATCH in the center.

You tried reclining the CR-V seatbacks, then installing, then putting them back upright? I could install anything in that car using that technique (and I miss that feature desperately in my Escape...sigh...).
LATCH is *incredibly* safe when used properly

I did try reclining the seat and was able to get it acceptably tight. However, the buckle (even after twisting) was on the edge of the belt path. :-( I posted pics in the Installation board. The LATCH most definitely offers a tighter install and a more upright one. It's MUCH better (though seatbelt was passable). I just want to feel comfortable using it to the limit since I"ve never used it before.
