Question Solution for a toddler getting out of his seat?

My son has learned a new 'trick'. He can slide down the chestplate & then puts both arms through the space between the two shoulder straps & then spreads his arms & the straps are then under his armpits. Other moms in one of my Yahoo group had suggestions but they would comprimise the safety of the seat (ex. tying the straps in a knot below the chestplate, putting a safety pin in the strap over & under the chest plate, etc.)

Any safe suggestions? Oh, my son is 20 months old so the "car won't work when you are not in your seat" trick won't work just yet.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

This is very normal about this age. Is he rear or forward facing?

Make sure you can't pinch anything at the shoulders when you put him in, and when he does it stop the car. Maybe stop and simply go home. If he's too young to discipline about it then he just can't ride in the car unless you must go out.

You can try putting the rough side of velcro on either side of the chest clip. That won't interfere with the use of it, but it'll make it uncomfortable for him.
