Chase

Okay, purely curiosity is driving this, so please don't flame me! :)

IIRC, the Chase has a higher weight limit in Canada than the US? Here being only 40 pounds harnessed. Is it the same seat? Just wondering since my kids both outgrew by weight before height (and they are not chunky kids in any way, shape, or form and C is all torso). No, I'm not going to keep using it after C gains his last pound since I have other seats. I'm just curious why the difference in weight limits if it is the same seat!

My understanding is that it is the same seat, but testing in CA is done with the top tether, and in the US it's done without the top tether.

I have also wondered about the Graco Cargo as to if there really was a difference between the US 40lb version and the Canadian 48lb version. My DD had to move out of the Cargo a few months ago when she hit 40 pounds. She hadn't outgrown the harness height though. I was tempted to keep using the seat until she was a little heavier, but decided instead to move her into a booster in that vehicle.

I haven't checked on it in years, but both the Chase and the Cargo were the same in US and Canada.

Back before there were HWH seats, it was not uncommon to hear a tech explaining VERY CAREFULLY that technically, the 40# 2.5 yr old kid had to have the harness taken off his Chase/Cargo, since the US weight limit was defined by the performance of the seat without the tether, but in Canada were the weight limit was defined by the performance of the seat with the tether the weight limit of the harness for the exact same seat was 47/48# so they (and some American parents who made a parental decision to follow Canada's weight limits and risk a ticket for the sake of safety) didn't have to put 2.5yo children who keep unbuckling themselves (and which will incidentally still get you a ticket) in booster mode.

Nowdays with HWH seats so readily available, it is not as common to be helping parents who find themselves in the tough position.
