Yay for good choices!

So one family I babysit for has had their child in a SR (back adjust straps) complete with bundleme, too loose straps, and a belly clip for almost 9 months now. I've tried politely saying things, and adjusting the straps when I used the seat (only used it on the stroller, not in the car or I would have really adjusted it lol)... but it was just bad all around.

They told me last week they were going seat shopping because he was outgrowing the SR and I basically said "it's recommended to keep him rearfacing to 2 years old, just so you know picking seats". I honestly didn't hold out much hope and half expected them to come home with a Nautilus (side note: they truly care about their child... just don't know any differently about car safety). Imagine my surprise when I found out today they got a Boulevard CS (a plus for them!) and an EFTA for backup in dad's car. I was amazed... and mom talked about keeping him RF longer... yay!!

Quick question though: Dad is having trouble seeing out of his Rearview mirror with the seat in the center (EFTA in a Volvo car of some sort I believe). He asked me where seats were in my car etc. I told him I have them outboard because they won't fit next to eachother well and I only need 2 so it works out. Concerning his situation I told him the baby would be a lot safer outboard if he can then see out the mirror... if it's causing a hazard to the driver I would move him outboard and not worry about it. What are your thoughts on the matter??

Yep. Side vs. middle is a minimal lessening in safety (assuming good installs in both positions) whereas driver being able to see is very important. If he can't see over it there's nothing wrong with moving it outboard.
