Question Roundabout vs Marathon

Hi All, It's just about time to switch carseats for my son. He is currently in a Graco SafeSeat. He is 9 mo old but already 30 inches long and 23 lbs. That is 95% for height. Which convertible seat would you all recommend? I think he could use the Marathon b/c of his height but I'm concerned about the size of it. I read that the Roundabout is only RRing up to 30 inches? Is that true? We have a Nissan Xterra and even with his SS we can't put the passengers seat back that far. Are there any others I should consider also?

Thanks
Leah

I would absolutely go for a Marathon over a Roundabout. The Roundabout is nice, but I totally regret going that route as ds outgrew it rear facing by height by 2 and he's a peanut. I had to buy another convertible to keep him rear facing longer. For other options other than the Marathon, I would also look at the First Years True Fit or the Sunshine Kids Radian as those have taller shells than the Marathon, so could last longer rear facing especially if you have a tall and/or skinny kid. They also have higher harness slots, so will last longer forward facing also. I ended up going with the new True Fit w/ ARB. :)

I can't imagine the Radian working as it can be quite a bear and take up a ton of room RF. Same with the TrueFit.

I'd just go with the Marathon. Just don't recline it as much in order to get some passenger space back.

Definitely don't get the ROundabout. With your kid, it'd just be throwing money away.

Thanks for your responses. Can you also recommend a second seat that would maybe be more affordable for Grandma's car?

Thanks

If money is a concern, even for the first seat, you might check out the Britax Roundabout 50 as well. A bit cheaper "retail price" (and you can already find sales on it). New, so not as many cover choices. But it installs the same as the Marathon, has the same height as the Marathon, but a lower Face forward limit (50 pounds instead of 65) and is missing some of the extras of the Marathon.

However, if you pay less for the Roundabout 50 instead of the Marathon, it might open up more money for Grandma's car.

A lot of people buy the Cosco Scenera or the Avenue (purchased at Kmart/Sears) for a Grandma's car situation. HAving owned a Scenera myself, briefly, I strongly recommend checking out the Avenue instead :)

I have an Xterra. The Radian goes in very well because the backseats are SO sloped. The big Britaxes fit just fine. In any seating position for either seat.

I'd look at a True Fit, Evenflo Triumph Advance, Graco My Ride, before the Marathon and Boulevard and Radian.

For grandma look at the Cosco Scenera or Safety 1st Avenue.
