Why am I not allowed to see "currently active users"?

Really, all I did was go to the main forum page, as I was looking to see if a particular member was online. So I clicked on "Currently Active Users"...the little button thing under "What's going on" and above "Most users ever online...." And it told me...

""vBulletin Message
megnjay, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. ""

Why can't I see all the online members?
I'm a little sad, I was looking for somebody. :(

The currently active (and visible) users are all listed in that box. I don't know for sure, but I think that the "Currently Active Users" link would go to a page which shows not only who's on, but what they're currently doing (what forum they're browsing, if they're in the middle of posting, etc), but that information is only available to administrators (and maybe moderators, probably depending how the board is set up). I think it's sort of unfortunate that there's a link that you and I can click on that doesn't do anything but make us feel bad for looking, but it doesn't seem to me to be a very big deal or high priority kind of thing...

That's what I was starting to think. I guess I was just a little too shocked to be told "hey, you're not cool enough to see this part of the forum" :)p j/k) that I was distracted of seeing that right underneath my nose it showed who was online (literally right there, I even pointed out that the button thing was right there). Ha, silly me, I need some sleep.

It used to go to a page that showed more detail, including what each member was doing, like which thread they were reading, if they were replying to a PM, etc. This was not very popular among members, either, so it was removed. You can probably find the thread about it in the archives from a couple years ago. Sadly, it's impossible to please everyone. I wish there was an option to remove the link altogether, but there isn't.

I made the thread about it way back when, and shortly after I discovered it--you made it go poof. Which is fine, I don't want anyone knowing what I'm doing... It's bad enough you all can tell when I'm looking at your profiles. ;)

(mods and admin can still see the "what you're up to" mess, right?)
