Frontier max harness height question...

If you had one "click" left on the Frontier harness, how much harness time do you think you would have left? I love this seat, but I'm trying to figure out how much time my 5y/o would have left and if it's worth buying it over the Monterey.

Dh wants to buy him a Monterey, since it's the booster we eventually want for him. I am strongly considering the Frontier even if it only gets us 6 months of harness but I don't know if I'm just being OTT. Dh doesn't want to spend the extra money to gain only 6mo of harnessing. He is over 5 and does well in a booster the few times he's been in one.
he is 5yrs 2mo 46-47lbs and about 47"

fwiw, little brother is just as big and actually has a longer torso...so passing the Frontier down won't be happening anytime soon. Our next baby will be rearfacing for a long time.

I found the heights listed as 17.4 inches and 18.25 inches, so a bit more than 3/4 of an inch of torso height. I would think that would be more than 6 mo, but who really knows. He could grow a ton in his legs and fit much longer or grow a ton in his torso and not fit.

Also, did you install the seat when you checked how much room he has? Installed seat vs. sitting it on a floor or even a test install seat in a store can be different.

Also, at 5, is he mature enough to sit in a booster? Not lean, keep the seatbelt in position etc? If not, a harness is a must. The Nautilus is tiny bit taller harnessed and costs a lot less so might be an option. It is shorter in let support and more narrow at the shoulders, so you would have to try him in it too know if it would work.

Good luck and have fun!

I personally woudln't buy a frontier to harness for one "click" for a 47 lb 5 yr old who sits correctly. Now..if you were going to use it as a booster, sure! but if you want a monterey, I'd just get a monterey.

Thank you for replying I really appreciate it. The distance between "clicks" was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!! I would probably eventually use it as a booster...but do I need a $270 booster? No. lol

He does sit properly in a booster but we've never done one fulltime. He is scared of what can happen if you don't sit properly. My only concern might be if he falls asleep. I guess worst case senario, if he didn't sit properly in the Monterey I could put him in his dads Nautilus, but I really dislike that seat. He is on the top slots but has growing room. I wouldn't buy another one, that's why I was wondering about the Frontier. I installed it on the seat at BRU which looks similar recline wise to my seats.

Tough decision.

Why would you not use the FR as a booster? Do you already own the Monterey? The Frontier is absolutely fantastic as a booster, we have not been happier with any of the dozen+ boosters we've owned over the years. But if you already have a Monterey, yeah, there's really no point for 6-12 months of harnessing :twocents:

You may get lucky. Some kids can sleep in their boosters and the seatbelt stays in position just fine. It just depends on the booster and kid. My ds1 falls asleep in his TB on occassion but still sits up just fine. I'm constantly checking to see if he's slouching when he does, but it hasn't happened yet!

I don't have a frontier or a Monterey, I needed another seat for him and was debating between those two. We went with the Monterey. It should be here Monday.
