Can someone donate a car seat?

Ok here is the situation, I just joined, i am the "unregistered" who wrote about the mom who doesnt buckle her kid in right.

well she has recently agreed to keep her in a harness past 40 pounds which has insanely relieved some stress off of me! if only she would buckle her in right....

well i had a seat that my cousin thought her friend had that harnessed to 65 pounds, but it turned out she had sold it and my cousin hadnt realized it.

my neighbor is out of work (therefore so am i) and cant afford even the cheapest seat that goes to 65, or even 50 pounds.

This is a 3yo? How much does she weigh?

I know this goes against the grain here, but if the child is over 40#, and mother refuses to use a harness correctly, I'd rather see the child in a good properly used high-backed booster. If you're willing to spend $30, could you possibly do $40 and get a turbobooster?

That was my first thought, too. A high-weight-harness seat isn't safer if it's not used correctly.

Of course, I'm not too confident in mom's ability to properly buckle the child in a booster, either - it's not like a harness is all that complicated, and from your previous post about this situation, it doesn't sound like she's all that conscientious about it. But the fact is the odds are better for the child being properly buckled in a booster.

Please contact your county health department or local Safe Kids organization. If they are unable to provide you with a free or discounted child restraint, they may be able to refer you to another local entity that can. Many urban areas have at least one outlet that does this for families below the poverty line, on public aid, WIC or other programs. If you happen to live in the Chicago area, please send me a PM and I may be able to refer you to a local non-profit that can help.

As much as we all can appreciate your situation given the economic times, this is not the forum to request free child restraints. You might also try this website to see if they can help .
