Car accident, need suggestions for replacement seats

Dd almost 6, 50 pounds in a Britax Husky & dd age 2, 29 pounds rear facing in a Britax Marathon.

Price isn't an issue but I haven't been looking for new carseats in a while, don't know what's newly available or considered safest that's currently on the market.

I do NOT want a booster for my older child, and I DO want to keep my baby rear facing. I have tall/long torso kids, so high harness slots is important. I do not want side wings like the Britax Wizard, I need my kids to be able to see each other while in the car.

Thanks for your time!

For your oldest, I would suggest a Britax Regent, which is just the newer version of the Husky (goes to 80 lbs.). I think the Radian has been suggested a lot lately because it's top harness slots are a bit taller than the Britax seats (don't quote me on that because I'm not positive).

For your younger daughter, I would go with another Marathon if you liked that. The Decathlon is also a great seat, so if you're looking for a little change, that's a great option. Both of those go to 65 lbs. I have both and love them! Other higher weight limit seats...the Radian, as I said, has been recommended a lot lately. The Fisher Price Safe Voyage is another option...it's a bare version of the Britax seats...goes to 55 lbs. and doesn't have lock-offs or a rear-facing tether. Since price isn't an issue, I'd go with the Marathon or Decathlon.

I hope at least some of that made sense...it's 2 AM here and my eyes are really starting to burn!

i would get a regent for you older child and a radian if it will install well for you younger child, it's got higher slots by about 1 inch compaired to a marathon, and is more of an open seat, so the 2 year old won't feel so confinced... i really love the seat and haven't run into to many cars that it won't actully fit in.

"I do NOT want a booster for my older child, and I DO want to keep my baby rear facing." BRAVO!!! Good for you!!!

The Regent is the best bet for your oldest. Nothing harnesses as long. How did she fit in her Husky? Just curious really, since my dd just got her's.

The top slots on the Marathon and Decathlon are 17-17.5" (depending on who measures them) and some people have said the Radian's are 18". Some people prefer the push button harness adjuster on the Decathlon because fewer kids can figure it out like they do the lever adjuster on the Marathon. If your child is the type to fidget with stuff, it's something to consider. But the Marathon has all the great cover options! :D

Personally, I like the idea of the Radian because it doesn't sit up on a big base like most convertibles, it sits really low on the seat like the Regent does. My dd's Marathon sits really high up in our van and I wish (at almost 3) she could climb up in it easier and I have a larger-than-normal fear of roll-over crashes and to me it seems like a seat that sits lower would be better... blah, blah, blah... The seats that have been mentioned have the highest slots and weight limit of any seats that can RF and FF, so the differences are just personal preference really.

Some people have had some trouble getting the Radian to stay tight after installation and it's hard to find IRL... so it's usually recommended that you order it from Target.com because they allow you to return items purchased online at any Target store and you save yourself the return shipping fees. Sorry about your accident!! Hope everyone's fine, good luck carseat shopping!

Thanks for everyone's opinions! I've been reading more about the Radian, and because it MUST be installed at a 45 degree angle rear facing I think I will pass, my baby dd likes to be more upright, mor like 30 degrees.

my3girls, my oldest dd's shoulders are just below the second from the highest harness slots in her Husky, she has plenty of room to grow in it! My baby dd's harness is in the 3rd from the top slots, but is fairly close to being able to move them up.

My oldest wasn't with me in the accident, but my baby is fine. I have whiplash and am pretty sore, but hopefully I will be ok soon!

Thanks for asking :)
