Boo on Costco seat selection

Have any of your local Costcos EVER had decent seats for sale? The only seat I've ever seen at mine that I would ever have even considered buying was the Turbo (but the last time I saw it at my local store was years ago, well before my girls were even close to booster training). Otherwise it's just a steady stream of Cosco/EddieBauer 3-in-1 and non-Apex combo seats.

So I'm at Costco today and what do I see?

Mine had a new Turbo just a few weeks ago. They may still have it, but I didn't go down that aisle yesterday.

I've also seen a Dakota NBB, EB 3 in 1 (long time ago) and I *think* a EFT5 when it was newer. So, not bad at my Costco.

I was under the impression it's kinda like Big Lots-- they don't have consistent inventory because they get deals and sell them, rather than having a steady contract directly with a company.

Interesting. Maybe it's more like Target or BRU, where the buyer has the power to decide what to have in that specific store.

Both the costcos in my area ONLY carry 3 in 1s. One lady was telling her daughter (who was pregnant) that it would be the only seat she'd ever have to purchase and to get it for the baby in the belly. I tried so hard not to say anything, but she just kept saying it was the best seat ever and that it must be the best because it was the only one costco carries, by that point I just had to step in. I don't think the daughter was buying her mom's lecture in the first place though.

The two costco's around us...one carries nothing but the 3 in 1's. The other carries Dakota nbb, 3 in1's, and a few other dorel seats.

It's very hit or miss around here as to whether Costco will even have car seats. I just don't even expect it, so it doesn't really bother me.

I've never seen MA's in ours. I might be tempted by that. On of our Costcos had the 3-in-1's last week. And the 40lb one at that.

I've never seen carseats at the other Costcos in our area.

mine often has TBs and MAs. right now they have the new 50 lb. AOE/Eddie Bauer, which I'm not even slightly intersted in, but I still think is a fine seat, for those who want one like that. at least its 50 lbs. and has a really cool front harness adjuster--much more likely that people will have their kids correctly harnessed. considering what Costco is and isn't, i'm pleasantly suprised. besides, Costco has ALWAYS said that if you want specialty items (in any category) than you order them through their website--and they have great seats online quite frequently--the FN and TF come to mind.

Our costco had Recaro seats once--that was cool!

Other than that, eh. It's not really a carseat store. I'd be all over the $40 turbobooster though.

Enh. I don't expect Costco to have good car seat selection. It's not that kind of store

Yeah, I don't expect it either, but it still bugs me b/c I figure there are a lot of sleep-deprived parents who are getting cases of diapers and see the seats and think "well, Costco usually has decent stuff for decent prices" and then get the seats without realizing there are plenty of better options for less $ (as a formerly sleep-deprived mom of twins, I came dangerously close to making that mistake when my DD's were about to outgrow their buckets. If it wasn't for a mom at church who said she tried the AO and thought the harness straps were so twisty that she'd "be cursing it every time" she buckled her DD, and a post on the OBBC multiples board about RA's on sale at babycatalog.com, who knows what kind of convertible I would've gotten stuck with)
Once I actually got a phone call from a friend who was in Costco and looking for a seat for her granddaughter who was outgrowing the bucket and she saw the AOE and thought it was kinda $$ - so glad she called b/c I told her to get back in the car and drive across the freeway to Target and get a Scenera instead
