Washing straps and exp. question

My first question is how are you suppose to clean harness straps on a car seat? I know they can't get too wet but how do you get puke off of them???

Next question: both grandparents have those cosco harness-to-booster carseats and I think they may be expired b/c they have DOM of 2003, what is the life span of those seats? They both got them from yard sales and meant well but I really dont want my daughter riding in them; she doesn't yet. So i'm wondering if I can use the "they are expired" excuse.

baking soda worked for me on the straps

i'd say most seats are 6yrs so yeah sometime in 2009 it expires (depends on the month). i wouldn't use yard sale seats either

Cosco high-back booster seats (with the harnesses) do indeed have 6 year lifespans. If they're not expired, they're close.

You should never use a seat that you didn't buy new unless it passes the used seat checklist. I'd print that out and ask them if they can answer all those questions about the seats' histories. If not, bye-bye seats. It would also open up a discussion on why not to buy used seats.

I personally just make it a habit of supplying the grandparents with the seat(s) I want used in their cars. That way I know my child is in a safe seat.

I don't want to use the seats b/c they are yard sale seats and that's why I was hoping they were expired b/c this would be a great excuse to say nope cant use that seat. Either way my kid is not riding in them but I already am giving a hard time about how "car seat crazy" I am so expired seat is an easy route out of the conversation!
