I have one, but I currently have it installed by POST advisory guidelines b/c that's what another C-S.org member suggested I do. However, I really hate how reclined DS1 is--the straps are really weird because of it--way high above his shoulders, and at a weird angle. KWIM?? Is it less safe to install it Pre-advisory? Can someone just talk to me about the whole pre- and post-advisory thing??? pretty please??

I have a pre-advisory regent and have made a parental decision to continue using it without the advisory fixes. I initially had it installed using post-advisory instructions, but once my DD's shoulders were above the top slots, I switched it to pre-advisory instructions. It does install really well using the pre-advisory instructions and she had much more leg room without that recline bar in place. The only install I was able to get to work in my car was no-recline bar, long belt path with top tether.

I don't know what to tell you, I use mine by pre advisory guidelines. Sometimes I worry, like now, but it usually passes quickly. Sometimes there are posts saying it tested better post advisory, and then again, it did well, as far as I know, pre advisory. This is one of those times when you have to go with your gut, and of course, the best install

Britax has never really provided details on why they issued the advisory, but speculation is that it was related to head excursion.

The pre-advisory Regent tested well - it's not that the seat was suddenly unsafe, it's just that Britax found that the seat performed even better using the new rules. It's important to keep in mind that it was not a recall, and Britax said caregivers are allowed to continue using the pre-advisory instructions as long as they don't install the advisory kit.

Personally, I have my 49-lb. DS's Regent installed LBP w/o recline bar, and I have no qualms about it whatsoever. (That's the ONLY way I can get the Regent installed in my 1998 Escort.)

As long as you have a pre-advisory Regent (pre-6/17/07) then you can install it with pre-advisory installations. That means no recline bar required, long belt path or short belt path at any weight.

However, I believe they actually had some structural changes to the shell in the post-advisory seats that mean you cannot go by pre-advisory installation instructions.

OK, all the posts here have been helpful. Thank you!

I DO have a pre-advisory Regent, but it's installed by post-advisory guidelines. For those of you who have chosen to keep the pre-advisory install, can you tell me more about why you did that? (The one thing I'm hearing is that you get another inch or so of harness heigh pre-advisory.) But have other people felt that the "fit" isn't good on the post-advisory install, because the child is so reclined, and the straps come at such a weird angle? I'd take pics, but I don't think they could accurately show what I mean.....As much as we're supposed to understand that the post-advisory install is safER, I just feel like the harness fit now isn't all that safe.....and it's the post-advisory instal....

ETA: for the record, I have it installed with SBP, recline bar and top tethered.

Safety wise they both where fine with me. I like the Pre because it's more upright, so DD is more comfy and I do get the extra harness height.
Pre now.

I have a pre advisory Regent installed w/o recline bar and LATCH. I cant fit the seat in my car with the recline bar, so I dont use it. I dont worry about it, cause it was safe before, and its still safe.

So on the recline bar it doesn't have to lay completely on the seat of the vehicle does it? It just acts as a spacer so the vehicle seatback can't be totally flush with the shell of the childseat right? The back of my recline bar is several inches off the vehicle seat bottom but pushed up against the vehicles seat back. My dh has the van during the day so I cant check install but I didn't thin it was all that reclined...

The recline bar, I believe, it to help with head excursion, it fills the gap between the seat of the car and car seat so it doesn't slide back and the top part doesn't fly forward. I do hope I explained that right, this was my uderstanding. It is meant to be against the back of the seat of the car, not the bottom. But I have been told by Britax that if it falls in or close to the bight it's OK.

I have my pre installed LBP w/ no recline bar and my 54" DS still fits well below the top slots. I get a great install this way and feel that he's plenty safe. My DD is also in a pre installed w/ latch, no recline bar and she has plenty of room too. Oh yeah and they both are top tethered.

Can I say HEVY - I adore that purple cover!!! I want one of those!
