I just had to share this...here's the story...I went to my hairstylist's yesterday to have my hair done. Should be simple right? Not for me...she's doing cap highlights and mentions that her husband has been moving her daughter's carseat to his work van and do I think this is okay. She's calling it a truck, he's calling it a van and they're both saying that he turns off the air bag. At this point I'm concerned and I'm thinking that as long as it's tethered and installed tight it is probably okay. Then the discussion gets side tracked to UAS belts because this is what he thought the tether was. Finally I can't stand it anymore and once the chemicals are on my head and covered I'm off to the driveway for any and all to see, cape, cap, chemicals...have you got that mental image yet...comical!
Turns out it is a commercial two seater van with no vehicle manual, no latch anchors and no obvious tether anchor and the carseat would probably move about 4" or more! Yikes! My recommendation...remove the seat until they can verify a tether anchor location, all agree, no problem. I proceed to reinstall the seat in her car after checking that her daughter still fit, keep in mind I'm still caped and capped!
We go back inside, he heads out with his friend to the hockey rink. We rinse the chemicals, shampoo the hair and we're getting to the cut when the phone rings. It's her husband calling. Why? To say he had just crashed the van! He ran into a newly installed cement post at the hockey rink! The van was undriveable! The post he hit was about 2" shorter than the fender and did major damage to the front suspension! No one was injured and the carseat was safely installed in Mom's car!
WHEW!!
Just a typical day in the life of the Caped Canadian Carseat Crusader!
