My shins look like I've been in a battle after a few car seat intalls. It's okay while it's cold, but I'm dreading the summer when I want to wear shorts!

I helped a friend (8 months pg w/ #6!!) install seats today (a RF DC in the 3rd row center, a FF DC in the 3rd row outboard and a Graco Snugride in the 2nd row center. It's not ideal..., but logistically and realistically, this was the best solution we could come up with to fit all 6 kids, ages 9 and under) and I can already see bruises popping up.

OH MY GOSH!!! This totally explains the mysterious bruises on MY legs!!

It has been bugging me lately that I can't figure out where I am getting them from, so THANK YOU for your post!!:D

Well I do have this really big bruise on my shin (that spelling doesn't look right...lol), and I have NO CLUE where it came from. I don't remember hitting it on anything...but I was messing with seats yesterday...and I just noticed the bruise today...hmm...

BTW, did you have any issues with the ff DC with the lock off??? Be sure and check her belts and see if the lock off is thinning the belt. It did it on mine (also a Suburban) when I first installed it, but then went back and redid how I closed the lock off, and now it's fine. I have 2 DCs installed ff in the 3rd row of my Suburban.

I was used to how I did it with the MA and BV, and you have to do it differently. I always held the shoulder belt tight while closing the lock off, but with the new style, you can't do that. Once I've taken out all the slack and get it snug, I just start to close the lock off, but instead of holding onto the shoulder belt, you have to let go, and then close it. It stretches the belt otherwise.

I didn't have any trouble with the lock off--but I've read about all the trouble on here. Next time I see her, I'll climb in there and check it out to make sure it's not doing any damage to her belt. I definitely prefer the old style lock off, though.

I have bruised my legs a couple of times installing my snugride base, but then I got the idea to lay a thick baby blanket between my legs and the seat. It helped a lot.

- If I didn't bruise my shins on the base, I get one because I "forgot" or "missed" the running board backing out of a pickup or SUV.

- I jokingly tell parents when they hear me say, "ouch," that "It's not a check up event if you don't get a bruise, lose some skin." I could say "break a nail," but that isn't an issue for me - LOL.

I ALWAYS seem to scrape my hand in a belt path, searching for/releasing a tether in a van, or searching for a lost/fallen buckle in the seat bight.
