3 Across '02 Pathfinder

Hi!
I currently have 2 sons in an '02 Pathfinder. The younger one just turned one last week (19 lb, not sure his height but he is short) and we need to transition him out of our Graco Snugride. The older one is 37 lb. and 38 in. currently forward facing in an Evenflo Triumph.

We are hoping to have a third baby ASAP and would like to keep us the Snugrider for that child, with the Triumph for one of the kids we have now.

With that being the plan, my question lies in which seat I should get right now, and which boy should use it. I was thinking of getting the Radian 65 for the older son, forward facing and using the Triumph rear-facing for the younger one.

Do you think I would eventually be able to fit three across, Triumph, Radian 65 and Snugride? I want to plan this in advance so I don't have to buy all new carseats when and if the new baby comes.

Thanks!

I am not familiar with your vehicle, but hopefully someone is and can provide you with some possible seats.

You may want to look through this post showing successful 3-across configurations, even in some pretty small cars. Seeing those pictures in that post may give you some ideas of what might work well for your vehicle.

The radian is often a great choice for fitting into tight places so if it installs well in your vehicle, it may be a good seat to get. As for which child to use it, either one will be fine. Is your triumph the older style (40lb harness limit) or the newer style (50lb harness limit). If it is the older style triumph, that seat might not last your older son very much longer by weight (and probably by height too) so it might be best to give him the radian and give your younger child the triumph. If you have the newer evenflo triumph advance, both should be fine for either child.

I've gotten a big Britax (rear and forward), a forward Radian, and a Snugride across the back of my '01 Xterra. With two Radians you can probably get anything you want in there for sure, but one Radian may be all you need. The Triumph should puzzle well with it since the Radian sits so low and the Triumph sits up high.

Thanks for your responses. I did a little more research and I am now leaning toward the Britax Parkway. Then I will get a Radian later if I need to. How is the Parkway?

How old is the 36 pounder? He sounds far too young for a booster. The Parkway doesn't have a harness at all. At 36 pounds and 37 inches I'd go for the Radian now, and the Parkway when he's outgrown it. Plus the regular Parkway was discontinued quite a while ago, and the new Parkway 120 isn't out yet, so I'm not certain which one you were talking about. I haven't seen the new 120 in person yet, so I don't know if it's wide or not.

Plus, doing a booster in a three across is a PITA in most cars. You need to make sure you can buckle in the seat properly, and not unbuckle the one next to it. Often in a tight three across we recommend a harness even for a six or seven year old or older, if they fit, just because then the buckle is in front and you have easy access to it to buckle in, and you don't need to worry about unbuckling by accident.
