Someone called for me!

She lives here in my town. She wants to chat about carseats, since it was just brought to her attention that having her two year old (!!!) in a booster was not a good idea. She left a message for me, then I left one for her, so hopefully she'll call back soon. Yay! She says she found my name on the NHTSA site. I didn't know it was there at all. I don't think I'm listed as an inspection station at all, and I didn't think NHTSA did individuals. No matter, she's got a two year old in a booster who needs out. :) I know a lot of people say their names are online and they never get called, but here I am less than five months out from certification and wooo hooo!! I'm glad someone called. :)

He's too big to RF. She wasn't certain, but 33-35 pounds. Her money is tight, so I steered her toward the Apex 65 and told her to call me if she wants me to inspect them and make sure they're in fine. They have an older minivan and so she was concerned about lack of LATCH. Told her to call the manufacturer for the tether parts (it's a '99, so it should have spots and availability) and then get those.

She had him in an Evenflo Big Kid. Sigh. She has a younger child who is just one or so and was still RFing and so I told her about the benefits of extended RFing.

She's also annoyed that the manufacturer wouldn't put on the box that it wasn't safe for a two year old. We just had that discussion here a few weeks ago, that it's impossible to define an age and weight, they're just out to make a buck and there isn't enough education to stop parents from doing what she did. So she feels very angry about it. Luckily nothing came of it and hopefully she'll be hitting WalMart or Target and picking him up a seat ASAP.

Wendy, I'm glad you could help. That's so sad, I wonder how many parents want to do the best thing, but really don't know boosters are for older kids.
