finally pics of accident

I have finally had a moment to sit and do this. Between a scheduled trip to TX and finding a new car I have not had much time for this.

So a reminder or info for those that didn't see the first post. We were in a rollover accident I had my 2 youngest (3.5yrs and 8mos) with me they were in their Radian Xt's. the 3.5 yr old out board passenger FF, the 8 month old middle RF.

We went 180 degrees from our tires to the roof. We were all scared but not harmed! I was glad my oldest was not with me.

My SI air bag did not deploy and my belt did not lock.

Again thank you to all the wonderful people who helped me to understand the importance of extended harnessing!

first pic is a front on picture of the vehicle (trailer not mine)

The second pic is of the drive side we hit on the side but the shape of the car caused us to skip the driver crumple zone and flipping us to land on the passenger side. In this case that was good for me!

The third pic is taken from the back of the Tribute looking in the car.

We had to use all the insurance money on the new car but I am pretty sure we are going to buy a new Radian to puzzle with the MA that we had. The new car is a 2001 Volvo and has more hip room than the Tribute did. I am a Huge fan of the XT!

Your insurance should reimburse you for the new seats you buy, separately from the money paid for the car.

it was they gave us 4500 for the car and 500 for the seats...I had receipts for the XT's I had bought just 2 months earlier which were more than 500 but to no avail 500 was what we could get.

Ah, I see.

That's ridiculous, they should have given you the actual cost of replacing the seats.

I'd fight that, personally.

I'd fight it tooth and nail :twocents:

what's the difference between the actual cost of the seats and the $500 they gave?

personally, unless we're talking hundreds more than the $500 they gave you, i'd focus more on the $4500 they gave you for the vehicle itself.

most insurance companies rip you off when they total the car and give you what they think it's worth. i'd be fighting THAT tooth and nail because usually stand to gain much more. i fought once with the insurance co. because they wanted to give me $1800 for my car after it was totaled. i fought it and they ended up giving me $2300.

Yeah, not related to car seat safety, but a general rule of thumb on totaled vehicles...NEVER take the first offer. They will and do low ball you in the hope you won't fight back.

The cost of 2 XTs alone is 540, plus...it was a TB, right? That's another 60. So that's 600...so in retrospect 500 really isn't that bad. I think i read it wrong the first time!

its was parkway :(....

Dh did go round and round on the phone with the agent and he didn't budge. We didn't really know how else to go about getting more. He did write it for over to include the deductible.

I would have loved more but I am REALLY happy to be done with it. I feel like I am able to move on from the accident now that we have a new car.

We have only ever had one car so after the accident I was borrowing my mom's rabbit....now that was a tight fit!!

thank you for the well wishes.

I'm glad you are ok and I know what you mean about having everything "settled". My only experience with accidents was having the vehicle damaged rather thn totalled, and my insurance paid for the exact cost of the repair and the exact cost of replacing my exact carseat, less my deductible. They actually offered to pay for the cost of a rental while my vehicle was being repaired, but we had an extra vehicle to use so we didn't need a rental. It doesn't sound like your insurance company took very good care of your family, I'd be interested in knowing who your car insurance is with but I'm nosey like that, so I understand if you don't want to answer. :)

Ultimately, the most important thing is that you and your family is all safe. I hope you like your new vehicle!

Our insurance is WI Mutual. I pulled the breakdown report it was 590 for all 3 car seats getting actual for the Radians because I had prof of purchase and only 40 for the booster and 4600 for the car...of course a 250 deductible in that.

We were happy with it because when we ran the numbers with our banker based on NADA's numbers we expected the insurance company to only give us 3700 for the car. They do offer $30 a day for a rental and they went out to asses the car the next day so we had a check with in 48 hours of the accident.

The rental is reimbursed though and I wanted to save every dime for getting the new car. Of course we upgraded and had to use ALL the $ towards the new car. I am sure we could not have replaced the tribute and all 3 car seats for $5000 though. maybe if we found another 5 speed with 155000 miles:D

Thats not so bad then. When they paid to replace my carseat, they told me to buy a new one and send the receipt of the NEW seat. So even thought I had got my RA on sale the year before my accident, I was able to get paid for what it cost me to pick up a new one at BRU.

I do hope you love the Volvo, I've always wanted one. My friend's husband has a Volvo wagon and I haven't had time to play with it personally because he works out of town, but sounds like the have no LATCH and have had some trouble installing carseats from time to time.
