Next seat for my 6yo?

I have a 6 yo who is 49" tall and 49 pounds. His shoulders are at the highest slot in his Regent. And in his Parkway (2nd car) he is on the highest notch of the headrest - and it is getting a bit short for him. He understands that he must sit properly in a booster, not fiddle with the seatbelt, etc... but I am so nervous to transfer him. He seems so unprotected. I have diligently harnessed him as long as I can... I knew eventually he would outgrow carseats and the time has come...
Can someone send me some reassurance that his next step is a backless booster and that I am doing the right thing? Thanks so much!!!

Firstly, you're doing a great job

Secondly, I would actually prefer to see a six year old remain in a highback booster for a few years yet. Backless boosters are more for older children (think over 8 to 10).

The Monterey would be your best bet. It adjusts higher than the Parkway and is wider and generally more comfortable :)

That is one tall six year old! I don't think he would last that much longer in the Monterey, my 10 year old is on the top notch of both it and the parkway. Do you happen to have any stores where you live that have the Monterey? There are some new boosters on the horizon maybe one of those will be tall, we just don't know yet. If you want to keep him in a high back I think right now the frontier in booster mode would be your only choice but obviously quite expensive.

here are some pictures of Daniel in both on the highest setting

There is the cleck oobr, supposed to be out July/Aug (but don't hold your breath! lol). I don't think it is any taller though.

There is the cybrex, which has been in Europe and coming to the US. It is supposed to be out "third quarter" which we think might mean July/Aug/Sept if you are going with the notion that Jan/Feb/Mar is "first quarter."

and the new parkway 120 and we have no idea how tall it will be, when it will be out, if it will latch, but it is to have an anti-submarine clip.

Great ideas - we'll go test out the HBB to see if it would buy us much more time. He's due for a growth spurt believe it or not. I keep thinking - if I am this nervous about moving out of a 5 point - how am I going to survive when he is 16??? Serenity now!!!:)
Thank you so much for the advice and the reassurance.
