I know this has been asked a million times but should I replace my seats? Noone hurt, we drove away but dang it was a hard hit!! The kids weren't in the seats either. Both britax seats, frontier and marathon.

I wouldn't. No kids in the seats, rear-ending there was likely very little (probably no) stress on the seats. You know the NHTSA guidelines and Britax guidelines, but I would say to keep using them without a care.

I would definitely go through the NHTSA/Britax replacement criteria, largely because of the part I bolded. I totally can't think of the criteria right now.

I need to hear more about this 'hard hit'. Was it comparable to, say, accidentally running a tire over a curb on a hard turn?

Did your seatbelt lock when you were thrown forward? Do you have any bruising or marks on your chest from the belt?

A lot of that has to do with the locking mechanism. Some engage when the belt spools out quickly. These are the ones that lock up on you if you yank on the belt hard. Some only engage when the vehicle changes movement quickly. Those you can yank on the belt all day, if the vehicle doesn't move it won't lock.

When I was rear ended a few months ago, my belt definitely locked. That's one of the few things I clearly remember from the moment of the crash, the sensation of the belt locked and holding me back. I didn't have any marks or bruises, and it may or may not have passed Britax's minor crash criteria (depending if the soreness I felt for a few hours counts as "injury"), but I considered the crash to be moderate to severe. 25ish mph impact, over $4K in repairs to my vehicle, and they had to take the back seat out to do the work. My car was pretty damaged, and there is no way I would reuse DD's carseat (if it had happened to be a Britax).

I was already leaning forward because I was trying to merge with oncoming traffic looking out my window, but I did hit the steering wheel with my chest and it does hurt today. I dont see any marks. I'm not sure if the belt locked I think it did but like I say I was already leaning forward. I have a ford escape it was hit so hard that the back door/gate doesn't open, way harder than running a curb for sure. My hubby thinks there is going to be about 5K worth of damage.
