Sorry for the confusing title. I am part of a local website for my area and there is a lot of discussion going on about LATCH versus seatbelt.
One women had her seat installed by the local fire department and they installed using LATCH and the seatbelt.
What information can I pass on about why you use one or the other and not both?

I am no expert, but for starters it may make sense to someone to install both, thinking the more the better. But the seats are currently not tested that way...therefore the child in the seat is the crash test dummy.

The seatbelt and latch should not be installed at the same time. However, on another thread someone's Dodge car manual said the seat vehicle belt may need to be loosely installed to keep of out of the way. So EVERY person should read their carseat manual and Car's Manual.

Also, LATCH is no safer that seatbelts. It was created to hopefully help carseats be installed easier, and better.

Thanks! I suggested everyone read there manuals. I said the same thing about LATCH being designed as an easier install or more universal instal but honestly I think it has confused parents more in many cases.
