i'm kinda confused by the end of the article saying that there are only 2 states known with more strict laws... the law in illinois is 8 and 80 lbs. what are the laws in other states?

btw, i do think it's awesome that mn is getting on board with enforcing children to be more safe!

Actually, there's no weight (or height) component to the Illinois booster law - once a child turns 8, he or she can legally ride in just the seat belt regardless of their height and weight.

The IIHS has a great overview of child restraint laws for each state.

I think they listed Wyoming and Tennessee as being tougher because they are the only ones that are through age 8- which is essentially 9. Any other of the laws that state age 8 just mean 8th birthday.

They missed that Oregon doesn't have an age limit. It's strictly 4'9", which I think is preferable.

I love how states that a child must be 8 AND 4'9" before being in just a seatbelt.

I also thought that Tennessee's law was up to age 9..... I don't know how well worded that article was in the OP.

I was under the impression that it was 8 OR 4'9"
