Testing of LATCH and seatbelt used together?

At my recent CPS class, one of the instructors mentioned that there is current testing going on. Is this true? Has it been going on for awhile, or is this a new thing?

I'm sure it's always been going on...they 'know' parents are going to do it, and it would be pretty bad news (read: expensive liability from lawsuits if kids are injured) if it is actually harmful. I've never seen any numbers from the companies, nor any injury data from the field, though. I think the worst that could come of it is slightly increased chest G-forces because there may not be enough 'give' in the system, but since it's two sets of stretchable webbing, it can't be too much higher, I'm guessing.

I remember hearing the same thing in *my* tech class...and that was almost 2 years ago. Since we haven't heard anything else, I'd guess that the crash tests were not promising :p

I can't really imagine it would change anything even if it's perfectly safe to do...people are confused enough about car seats: having yet another set of directions (to use both) in the manual for people to ignore would do more harm than good

It was mentioned in the update I went to in March. Results weren't promising. Same w/ non-standard/center LATCH.

:yeahthat:

In addition, the current federal standard specifies seatbelt only, seatbelt with top tether, lower anchors only, or lower anchors and top tether. No option of seatbelt plus lower anchors together.
