Hi there

I live in Canada and have a 2001 Forester.
Our Graco infant seat is installed behind the passenger seat. It is is tight fit and the passenger seat is WAY up. I have been sitting in the back with the baby for 6 mo.

We are starting to look at new seats (baby is 18+lbs and almost 26"). I think he is slowing down, but wanted to be prepared!
I want to be able to sit up front again!

We are looking at convertible seats.
Someone told me Britax was the best but most $$$.
I was recommended the Evenflo Triumph as second in RF time for baby.

It seems that almost all seats now RF til 30 lbs. Is that true? Are there ones that go longer?

What seat will install RF and FF and let me have enough room to sit in the front seat again?
I like installation behind passenger, as it allows me to see baby well when I am driving.

Thanks!
Ango

I have an '01 Forester and a Marathon. It fit great RF behind the passenger -- the passenger seat was only one click from being all the way back, but it did need to be completely upright. My Marathon was installed at around 30 degrees instead of 45, once my son was old enough and had good head control... which is probably the case with your 6-month old. :) The only other seat I've tried is the Radian, which did NOT work RF in my car.

I can't speak to the weight limits on Canadian seats, because I'm not sure...

We have an '03 (used to have an '01) with the infant seat in the middle - which gives ALOT more room to both the passenger & driver! It can be hard to get a good install with the hump & weird seatbelt from the ceiling, but if you can do it, it helps!
We're looking at the True Fit for our next seat & hope it will fit well either in the center as we have the infant seat now, or behind the passenger seat. Since it will be less reclined, baseless & takes up less front-to-back room than the infant seat does, we think it will be good. We'll definitely try it out in the car at Babies R Us before we buy, though, since Subarus are notorious for being car seat-unfriendly! :(

The Firist Years TrueFit, Cosco Scenera, and Dorel/Costco/Safety First Alpha Omega/3-in-1's all go to 35lbs rear facing now. (And one other that escapes me at the moment). For the Cosco ones, the date of manufacture must be after Dec. 23/08 to be 35lb limits. That being said, the True Fit is probably the most recomended of the three, although I can't speak for the fit in a Subaru. Subaru's are generally known as being pretty difficult in terms of ease of installation of car seats. The best thing to do would likely be to go to Toys R Us and try a few out in your vehicle and see which ones fit best.
