Would you put a 5.5 yr old in a HBB?

Hi,

I have read that the nautilus has issues with kids sitting on the buckle, so I checked my DS & it is way under him. So now I am not sure if he should use this seat as his spare now. This seat is in my DH car.

Anyways should I get him a different HWH or a HBB? Or is it ok if he sits on the opening to where the buckle comes out?

He will be 6 yrs old this September & he is 46 lbs & almost 44" tall. He is a wild child & always sleeps in the car why I want him in the HWH.

Thanks for your thoughts on what I should do!

Unless the crotch strap is causing him pain/discomfort Graco has since said it is fine to use the way you are describing it.

It sounds like your son still needs the five point harness as he is not mature enough to sit properly each and every time. So, unless it is causing discomfort keep him in the GN until he can sit properly in the booster.

Josef is in a SK Monterey part time and  it and doing great in it! He is the same age as your little one but much lighter, lol.

I think I would go with a harness for now. Since you said he is kind of wild and sleeps in the car it would be the safest way to go.

I have my 5.5 yr old (50lbs, almost 50") in a Monterey full time. However, it's because she's too tall for all the HWH seats we had. Nautilus, Apex and Marathon. We simply could not afford another HWH seat.

I'm totally fine with her in it full time. BUT, she sits great and doesn't sleep unless it's super late. The Monterey does a great job of keeping her positioned properly while sleeping.

For a child who is still a bit wild and sleeps a lot, I'd go with a harnessed seat for awhile.
