Hubby got a new car yesterday...

He's lucky that he works for a company that gives him a company vehicle and yesterday was new car day! He traded in his Jeep Liberty (that we hated...NOT good for installing seats) for a Dodge Charger. He brought it home and he laughed and laughed when the first thing I did was get in the backseat and check out the LATCH system and seatbelts! I was pleased to discover LATCH in all three seating positions instead of just the outboard. This is a good thing b/c the buckle stalks are very long and the latch plates are lightweight locking and the retractors are ELR. I can see an install with seatbelts not being very fun in that car! The middle seating postion is very flat and "bench-like" and I can't wait to install an infant seat there to test it out!

This post could also be titled "Yet another way you know you're a carseat freak!"

LOL, that's how I would first "inspect" a new car, too.

Out of curiosity, what made the Liberty unfriendly for carseats? My MIL has one and I may need to install seats for my DDs to ride with her at some point. MIL usually leases something new every couple of years and her vehicle choices aren't usually made with ease of carseat installation in mind, sigh. (Don't get me started about top tether anchor locations in the Buick Rendezvous or deeply buried lower LATCH anchors in the GMC Envoy).

Thanks in advance for your insight, and any Liberty installation pointers would be greatly appreciated. :)

I'm not sure of the problems anyone else has had with installs in a Liberty, but I had my Radian RFing (center) and FFing with the seatbelt, my WZ FRing and FFing, and a Graco Comfortsport FFing in my sister's Liberty. Never tried more than 2 seats at a time. We had it to use for 6 weeks when she was in Mexico. We needed another car! LOL, hers made four in our driveway! Anyway, other than not having a ton of room for a RFing car seat, I didn't forsee any problems, except that three seats would probably be hard to do!

Hope that helps.

When I did my CPS course, I was driving the Liberty and we used it as a practice vehicle and anybody trying to install an infant base steered clear! It was very hard to get the correct recline and to get it in there snugly enough. FF was fine, though. I've only installed my kid's seats in there a couple of times and it was always FF. I think I installed a Marathon in there RF and it was okay b/c I was able to use the tether to get the correct recline angle.
