I installed a Traveller Plus yesterday!

We had a seatcheck yesterday and it was just awful outside, freezing and drizzling, brrrr. It was supposed to go til 3, but for some reason at 2, everyone from the safety fair packed up, us included. We had some people come then of course b/c it was advertised till 3. Someone pulled up and the head guy asked if I would do a special needs seat. I had nothing else to do but stand in the rain waiting for DH so I did it. I opened the trunk to find this massive TP back there. It was really neat to do it b/c I've never installed one, I think I've seen one maybe twice. The little guy was adorable, he was 2.5yo and was riding in a loaner seat from a friend (an Apex) so we got this seat all put in for him so he'd be nice and safe. It was great and I wish I had had another less experienced tech there w/ me so they could've seen it. I've wanted to take the special needs tech class for the past 2 yrs and I just can't afford the $200 + hotel room if it doesn't happen to be held here. Plus it would mean finding someone for the kids etc, it's sad that I can't go b/c of that.

Was he too big to rear face, or were the medical reasons he couldn't rear face? The TP is similar to the Regent, but you can add bolsters and things like that to it, right? I'm just a little surprised there wasn't a conventional seat that could be used for a 2.5 year old.

I'm thinking he may have been over 40?

I am also thinking that conventional seats DID work-- he was in an Apex-- but perhaps parents couldn't afford a HWH and someone was smart enough to get insurance to cover it for him since he was SN, but they would only cover a true SN seat.

He was a newly placed (mom got him Friday and is adopting him I think) foster kid. The seat came w/ him from the foster family who had him before. He was 30#, so I'm not sure why they had a TP for him since he'll need a new one probably before he's ready to move to a booster or whatnot, but I'm assuming Medicaid paid for it. I didn't mention rfing, maybe I should've, but there could've been other problems w/ choking or something that I didn't know about etc where he would've needed to be ffing.

It does install like the Regent, pretty much identical. It looked really funny in mom's car. She had a smaller 4 dr sedan and it was just SOOO big!
