Locking Clip Not Working

I have a Graco Snugride. When I install it in my 2002 Subaru (no latch), the ALR seatbelt causes it to tip to one side. This happens in all three back seat positions.

Someone here suggested I use the locking clip instead of the ALR. When I installed it with the locking clip, the buckle comes up too far. The locking clip would have to be laying in the base of the carseat. Anyone know if this is ok? Or any suggestions of what to do?

By the way, my baby Oliver was born April 8th. I was looking at my Graco manual trying to figure out how to work this locking clip when I went into labor! So, now I have a baby and need to figure out this carseat! We've been using my husband's car, which has latch.

It looks pretty good to me. It's fine for the locking clip to be up in the belt path. You want it as close as possible to the buckle, no more than 1/2 inch away, and not resting right on the corner.

I've found the SnugRide bases combined with longish buckle stalks usually have that problem.

The way you have it is fine. Your only other option would be to twist the buckle stalk (up to 3 full twists) to get it low enough to keep the locking clip out of the beltpath. I can't tell from the picture if it's already twisted or not.

And just as a general reminder (to you or anyone else reading this thread) make sure that the belt is not locked at the retractor when using the locking clip and check to make sure that there is less than 1" of movement at the belt path.
