7YO's field trip tomorrow - LBB or HBB?

OK, in a perfect world I'd be having DD2 bring her Parkway when she goes in her classmate's car for a field trip tomorrow, but in reality I'll probably let her use the FPSV as an LBB. DD1 and 3 of her classmates will be in my car (DD's are in two different classes so I won't have both of them in my car), and I'm guessing she *might* ask if she can use her Air Booster as a LBB (It *does* fit her fine as an LBB)
So my "inner geek" is conflicted - I don't want to just decide "OK, LBB's just this once" b/c the majority of their classmates are using LBB's or no booster at all, but I don't know how much I should insist upon HBB's for a one-time event at this point (DD1 is about 53 lbs, DD2 about 45 lbs., they turned 7YO last November, they ride the backless FPSV's in the neighbor's car for carpool home from school, about 0.5 miles. Field trip is about 10 miles one way and will be mostly lightly-travelled 2 lane road.)

I sent DS with his Parkway for the field trips he took last year. :twocents: (The school now uses buses for field trips.)

What's your hesitation about sending the Parkway? Are you worried that she'll get teased for using it? (DS never did.) Worried that she'll feel bad because she's in a "baby seat" and the other kids aren't? You know that she's already noticed that anyway. :p

Really, if you're comfortable that she can use a backless booster correctly AND that she'll have adequate head support, then a backless is probably fine.

I'd go with backless myself, but not because of peer pressure (it never crossed my mind actually). Backless is easier to transport and less likely to get broken. It's also less likely to be used incorrectly. I know when my kids are around their friends they are very distracted (especially my ADHD ds) and I want them to use the most foolproof safety device. I always remind my ds (he's the only one so far to go off by himself with friends in another vehicle) that he needs a headrest and he knows how to use a backless. So, that's what I'd do.

Since you're fine with them going backless for 1/2 mile, I see no difference in going 10 miles. If they fit, they fit no matter the distance.

As long as there is head support, I'd let them take the backless. Do they both realize that boosters need to have lap-shoulder belts, and do they know how to buckle them correctly?

thanks for the input. I'm planning to send DD2 with her backless FPSV because she's going to have to carry it herself to her classmate's car (I won't know whose car she'll be in until tomorrow and since I'll be getting DD1 and 3 of her classmates to my car, I wouldn't be able to move DD2's PW to the classmate's car.) DD2 is a mini car seat geek so I'm confident she'll buckle herself properly in her FPSV with the lap/shoulder belt
DD1 actually hasn't asked if she can use her AirBooster without the back so I'll just leave it as is
