Do HBB expire?

I have a HBB that can have a harness. Does the HBB part really expire? I have heard conflicting advice!

And if it does not, can I order a new harness?

The entire seat expires, not just the harness - even if you replace the harness the plastic may become brittle and crack in a crash and the harness might completely detach leaving your child unrestrained.

Thats what I thought. But I had heard that the HBB are essentially only used as a pre crah positioner and so they dont expire and you can use them over the weight limit.

That's not true about high-backed boosters and even if it was, you still wouldn't want to put a harness on an expired shell because it could rip out of the shell.

ETA: If I *had to* choose between using an expired HBB 5 pounds over the weight limit or an expired harnessed seat 5 pounds over the weight limit, I'd choose the HBB. It may be a less bad choice, but it's still a bad choice. Seats should not be expired or misused intentionally.
