lumbar supports safe?

Now that I know a bit about child safety seats and how extra stuff (e.g., cushions) can reduce safety, I got to wondering about adults and lumbar support cushions. DH and I both use them. Anyone know if they significantly reduce ability of seat belt to protect in a crash?

As long as they don't interfere with the fit of the lap and shoulder belts, I doubt there would be much risk in a small cushion. One of our cars has fairly hard seats and I use a wedge shaped one (that is maybe 1.5" thick at the back and tapers at the front) on long trips, also.
