Carseat help for a friend

I have a friend who needs a new carseat. Her 1 year old is outgrowing her infant seat. So she is giving her the 3 year olds MA. So she needs a seat for the 3 year old. She weighs 35 lbs. She just turned 3 in feb. She wants to keep her harnessed at least till 6ish. I have already recommended her the frontier and or regent. She was a bit turned off by the regent being so huge. She liked the frontier and then found out there were 2 recalls on it. Could you explain these recalls so i could explain why the current seats are fine. And also what other seats would be an option. She doesn't like the nautilus. And wants a seat with SIP. Any other options i'm missing. She thinks its pointless to buy another convertible and is now looking for something like a combination seat. What options are there.

For high weight harnessing, the options are Nautilus, Frontier, or Apex65. The Nautilus converts into both a high back booster and a no back booster. The Frontier converts to a high back booster. The Apex doesn't convert at all, and it must have support from the vehicle at least to the level of the top of the child's ears.

All harnessed seats provide side impact protection just because they have the five point harness.

Frontiers manufactured between April 1 and Septermber 15, 2008, were recalled because the harness strap could come off the splitter plate. A repair kit was sent to all registered users, and retailers would have been sent repair kits to use on any they had in stock.

The Apex does indeed convert to a booster.

There are other options for higher-weight harnessing, but the three mentioned above are the only combination seats -- and IMO, a combination seat is the best choice for a FF 3yo.

As far as I remember, there were no injuries that resulted in the recall. Britax is just known for offering up recalls before NHTSA forces them to. Every carseat manufacturer has recalls. I personally prefer those who do so of their own volition rather than waiting until numerous kids are injured.

For a primary seat, I suggest either the Nautilus or Frontier -- whichever she finds easiest to use correctly.... The Apex is lighter weight for travel, though (& it does fit airplane seats on which at least 1 armrest can be raised). However, if she wants to be able to more easily fit 3 occupants in the backseat, she might prefer the Radian (which also folds for travel but is still heavy like the Nautilus & Frontier).

Not every one, at least not yet. Give them enough time, and I'm sure there will be recalls.
