US Resident Traveling to Canada -- RSTV???

We live in MN. We have a 2000 Subaru Impreza wagon. We travel to Canada most summers to visit family there. This summer, my SIL and DN,14 by then, may join us. The Impreza has a tiny backseat. DS, age 4 1/2, 40ish pounds, usually rides in a Nautilus on the second from the top slot with some room to grow at that position. There is no way we will get 2 more people in the backseat with a Nautilus in the center (lap belt and top tether). The Marathon won't work either.

What might work is a RSTV. Can a US resident in a US registered vehicle use an RSTV in Canada? I know they are not approved in Canada, but neither are any of our other US seats (they are the US models, not the Canadian ones). Do we have to meet Canadian rules, or as visitors, can we use what is approved in our home?

We'd be in Manitoba -- mostly Winnipeg, maybe Winnipeg Beach area.

Thanks!

I see no reason why it wouldn't be the same as any other U.S. approved seat-- as long as you're visiting, not staying more than 3 months, it should be fine.

Exactly.. As long as you're a visitor, and you're not importing the seat (leaving it in Canada).. you shouldn't encounter any problem. I am in the US with my Canadian seats all the time--same deal. It would be absurd to require foreigners to use Canadian seats while visiting.

So US Residents/Citizens CAN use RSTV's in Canada?

Thanks!

Yes.. It doesn't mean you won't encounter some ignorance here or there, but it'd doubtful. Legally, you can use it if you're not a Canadian resident. You can be a Canadian CITIZEN, as long as you're not a resident.
