LATCH weight limits on BMW--Safeguard

So I tried the safeguard go today and it fit perfectly--like a dream, but only with LATCH. The car has a tether, so there would be no issue using it, and it would solve my 5 pt. harness dilemma perfectly. I can find no mention of limits for BMW on their lower anchors(or top tethers). I scanned the search forum, but I don't have a whole lot of time. Ian is 37 lbs., and would be great in the Safeguard--I would be willing to buy it certainly, even if BMW went only to 48 lbs. That's a lot of growing time. BUT, if they only go to 40, is it worth it for 3 lbs.(given that it is a $200 seat)? I'm leaning this way, in particular for the reason given that the whole seat only weighs, what-10 lbs.? Not too thrilled with the ideas the local tech has given me at this point, and I'm thinking that it's better than a booster.
It absolutely did not fit with a seatbelt install.

Ok, so I just got off the phone with BMW...

they have no information on their LATCH anchors in regards to weight limits. So, that swings back to the seat manufacturer, correct? I'm thinking Safeguard.

SafeGuard Go LATCH limits

Actually, unless the vehicle manufacturer has a weight limit specifically called out, you can use the SafeGuard Go with LATCH up to 60 lbs. in harness mode.

This is because: (1) the SafeGuard Go is much lighter than other child seats, (2) You must always use the top tether in harness mode, takes some of the load away from the lower LATCH attachments, and (3) All of our testing confirms the loads incurred with a 60-lb child are lower than the strength required of vehicle lower LATCH anchors.

You can see that we recommend using LATCH up to 60 lbs. on page 23 of our installation manual, available free on our website:

Hope this helps!
