thecarseatlady website question regarding boosters

I have a question about the booster sheet on thecarseatlady site:
http://www.thecarseatlady.com/booster_seats/booster_seats.html

It says:

Who Should Ride in a Booster?

Kids, especially younger ones, are safer in a 5-point harness. Don’t rush to “graduate” your child to a booster seat. Kids who are AT LEAST 40 pounds AND AT LEAST 3-4 years old can start riding on boosters. Kids should ride on a booster UNTIL they can pass the 5-step-test (usually age 8-10), which you can see below.

If you can check "Yes" to all the statements below, your child is okay to use a booster:

YES NO
[ ] [ ] There is a shoulder AND lap belt where the child sits
[ ] [ ] The child is at least 40 pounds (kids are safer in a 5-point harness, especially those under 40lbs)
[ ] [ ] The child is at least 3-4 years old
[ ] [ ] The child can sit still the entire trip without leaning forward or sitting on their knees
[ ] [ ] You are using a no-back booster

Why is there that blurb about "You are using a no-back booster"? If you answer no stating you are going to use a high back booster, then I wouldn't be answering "Yes" to all the questions and my child isn't ready for a booster.

I'm not sure where that "no back booster" stipulation came from, but I think the entire blurb/checklist is pretty outdated. :twocents:

I agree. I especially have concerns about approving boosters for 3yos -- yes, it meets the legal minimum and yes, sometimes parents have to do what they have to do, but if that's supposed to be about best practice and "shoulds", it doesn't thrill me.

"The child is at least 3-4 years old" statement is redundant as well. If the child is at least 4, then they are already "at least 3". It simply needs to say "The child is 3 years of age or older" if that is her intent. Of course it would make me happier if it said "The child is 4 years of age or older".

Ya, that whole thing is worded badly.

Did anyone email her about it? I wonder how long ago that was done. I know she doesn't 'approve' of 3 year olds in boosters

You might want to email her. I'm sure it's a typo. She is a pediatrician and hard-core car seat advocate. The webmaster probably just made a typo.

I emailed her a couple hours ago. The thing about the no-back boosters is gone, but the age 3-4 comments are still there.

I had e-mailed them earlier today right after I had posted this post. I just checked my e-mail and Emily responded saying it was a typo and she corrected it. Glad to hear they were willing to fix the error so quickly.
