Who do they have teach these. I get the emails about what claases they have every month and this one is this month. Is it just someone that works for babies r us or a cpst?

The people at mine know nothin about car seats so if they are the ones teaching it then we will have lots of misuse in my town.

I have to teach one next month. The last one where Skaterbabs came to teach, no one showed up for the class (no advertising :(). It appears to me that they are going to teach all the wonderful aftermarket products you can buy to go with your infant seat, though ours claims to be in conjuntion with SafeKids . Anyway, I don't quite know what the 'curriculum' actually is, but I'll do my usual spiel about what ease-of-use features to look for on a seat (IF anyone shows up, lol) :)

I just received an e-mail from BabiesRUs talking about their April special events.

In mine, it says

"Buckle Up & Bookie"
Car seat workshop
Tuesday, April 28th, 6pm
There's no wiggle vroom when it comes to safety. You'll learn how to choose and use a car seat to keep baby safe.. with rules of the road provided by Safe Kids Worldwide.
(says reservations suggested for all April events)

I wonder if this is going on at all the BRU stores across the nation. Hopefully the get good techs at each store to give the presentation.

I have a copy of the presentation - it has very little to do with safety and A LOT to do with selling after-market products. They do show a Safekids video, which I have not seen. But the "talk" has so many mistakes. The biggest one is when they talk about when to turn a child FF - they recommend when the child's feet touch the vehicle seat!

Our coalition used to teach the BRU classes. using our own curriculum. They want to do it on their own now, with their less than knowledgeable associates. Whatever. The 2 techs that used to work at our BRU are not there anymore, not that they were that great anyway. Its a frustrating battle.

I could do a better job if thats what the class is about. Who do I contact to see who they have teaching this. Also if I did ask to do this for them and they say yes do I have to do whats on there paper even if I dont think the info is right.

Even if you can't stop them from teaching about the aftermarket stuff, I'd probably sit in the back and raise my hand occasionally. "Excuse me. I heard that those big headrests could get stuck behind the baby's head and cause suffocation, leading to death or brain damage." "Don't those bundle me's push the harness to the sides? Wouldn't that cause the seat to not work properly?" You'd at least get some parents wondering, and skipping out on buying them.

I went to our BRUs here yesterday for the first time. The first was so disappointing. The second was nicer and had more carseats. I would love if they did classes. I'm expecting and so the perfect little model to sit there and listen attentively, then bug them so much I'm probably kicked out. LOL

Just checked my e-mail and it does appear to be nationwide. I get the e-mails from the website but never specific ones to my area, and mine had it listed. April 28 at 6:30... Well, it is after tax season, but sadly, not at a time when I could get there. Drat, heckling would be such fun!

Ugh, it's in the evening. Nathan frowns on me going to heckle. But if it's really Safe Kids, then I know the people who would be doing it, so I can check with them. If it's not Safe Kids, maybe an email to BRU asking for clarification.... LOL
