RF question

Hi there! I have a question and I'm sure you all can help me. I plan on keeping my little guy RF as long as possible and my hisband agrees. I also tell anyone who asks why he's still RF about the risks. My question is....what about if you get rear-ended? Can the internal decapitation happen to the RF child in that instance?

For the record, my 3 year old (44 lbs) is in a Nautilus and my 1 year old is RF in his Roundabout.

Rear end collisions are very rarely serious, which is why they're not as stressed about. They make up 2-4% of SERIOUS collisions (they make up far more collisions, but they're bumps, gentle hits, or fender benders). And a rear end collision is only half rear end. It's someone else's frontal. So if you're the one doing the rear ending you've got a frontal collision to deal with.

Is it possible that a child will be internally decapitated in a serious rear end collision? Yes. Can't say no. If you're stopped and you get rear ended by a Mack truck going 65 mph then it's going to be bad. However, the chances of that happening are 2-4%. You're far more likely to protect your child by having them rear facing in the other 96-98% of collisions. And if you're in a frontal collision with that same Mack truck with both of you doing 65, that's now a 130 mph collision. Wouldn't you rather have your child rear facing in a 130 mph collision that's more likely to happen than the small chance of a 65 mph rear end collision?
