When does car seat expiration begin?

I know, it should be obvious.. from the date of manufacture BUT

what if you buy a carseat that has been sitting on a shelf for two years - not subject to the heat and cold of a vehicle? Never used or opened or subject to a recall.

What other concerns are there regarding expiration when no use has been done?

Expiration dates are from the date of manufacture. It doesn't matter how long it sat on the shelf or how often you used it.

Just because it was sitting on a shelf does not mean that it can't have a recall. Recalls are usually because of a manufacturing defect. They are defective from the time they were created, but it was only discovered after it had been in use.

•Materials wear out. Plastic stresses and warps. Straps and fabrics fray and rip. Instruction manuals get lost or destroyed. Important instructional labels fade, tear or fall off completely.

Thank you so much for the info... I just was having a hard time wrapping my head around other arguments and these were perfect!

Oh, I know that the item can be a recalled item even if it hadn't been used... I worded it wrong
