FElt guilty throwing away a 10 yr. old infant CR today

i know, it's DUMB!!! I found it in the attic and then I "destroyed" the straps on the seat and watched the trashmen put it in the trash compactor this morning.

but the eco-friendly/"don't throw useable things away" part of me felt bad! so much plastic! it could have been a perfectly decent infant seat for using indoors or something like that--but i could never have known for sure if someone would try to use it in the car....so i felt like it needed to be trashed.

can the old seats be recycled or anything??? i hate adding to the landfills.:(

Some places do offer recycling for car seats...but I'm not sure how to find out if your area does. Maybe call your local safe kids?

You did the right thing though.

There have been several threads lately about recycling old seats. I know around here we have it as an option, though it takes some work. Someone posted about starting a collection and recycling program, if you have the time and energy that's something you could do in your area (and recycle at the same time as you get old seats out of people's homes!)

I feel your pain. I hate throwing things away-especially big plastic items. I have a Portabout 5 in my basement that's about the expire..hmmm..and a snugride too. I know it needs to be done, but I haven't done it yet. Plus, my trash can is small (we pay by the size) so I will probably have to do it over a few weeks.

BUT, I'm looking forward to detroying it. I gotta find someone with some good power tools...or a chainsaw. Oooo this could be fun!

I did a check Sunday where the mom had her older kids' old seats and wanted me to check to see if she would be able to use them for her about-to-be-born baby.

Two PRISTINE Fisher Price Safe Embrace convertibles. I almost cried. Expired of course, mores the pity.

I'm going to remove the harness and enything else that looks interesting (chest clip!), dispose of the rest and do something crafty with the pirces I take off.
