Ford F150 SuperCab Trucks, Tether Question

I am in car seat hell. Dh bought a new truck last week and I have had a nightmare time installing a FF RA in the rear center position. Finally, I took it to the health dept and the tech and I spent forever installing it. However, I have a ? about the tether anchors. In my manual, it states that the tether straps are to be threaded thru these "tether loops" behind the seat, they are small pieces of nylon. After threading the tether strap thru these, the instructions state to attach the tether strap to an ajacent tether loop. Which is what we did, but was crazy to both the tech and I. For one thing, isn't the entire point of tethering the seat to attach it to the frame of the vehicle? And the manual states that each tether strap can act as a threading loop and a tethering loop at the same time. If one is unable to connect 2 car seats to a single metal anchor bolted to the metal FRAME of the truck, how in the flip is a piece of nylon webbing supposed to hold 2 car seats?
Had I messed w/ this before he purchased this we would not have a Ford at all.

I'm guessing the tech you saw didn't have the LATCH manual.... It is explained in there, but not with much detail as to why -- it's just the way it is based on manufacturer testing. It's important to remember that tethering is optional, but beneficial (meaning the carseat passes FMVSS without tethering, but tethering helps).

If this is of great concern to you you can purchase a solid tether anchor kit from EZOn (weighted to withstand much heigher weight than Ford's or any other that I know of) & a dealer can install into the frame behind the center back seat.
