My DD and I go to a fairly large church. About 500 adults. about 2x as many kids. I see many many car seats a we walk from the parking lot to the church.

I wonder do I leave a note about car seats obviously not intalled right ie 5pt seat flopped over to the side or barley 2 year olds in booster or the mom who does not use a car seat but holds the baby or the seat that is so old as to be falling off. and the one seat that really bites my hinney is the BMW with a OSH car eat with all the fabric ripping.......I get so frustrated. God entrusted us to 1. Love and protect our children. 2 set good examples for others and 3 to follow the laws of the land.....

What about leaving a note (or just talking to the person if you recognize the vehicle) and saying, "Hey, I noticed your child's carseat and just wanted to let you know some things I've learned about them while trying to find the safest way to transport my own kids!" and leaving them your contact info and maybe info for this site, safekids and an applicable safety pamphlet?

What about (if it is an acceptable thing to do at your church) putting up a flyer or two showing correct and incorrect way to install carseats, age reccomendations for seats, and information about expiration dates. One for each topic.

Find a tech in your area and set up a seat check event? It could be advertised in the church, possibly scheduled on a Sunday afternoon, and maybe the announcement could encourage it with something like "Think God will keep your kids safe? He is! He's sent you this fabulous seat check event!" :D

You can also order some pamphlets from USAA on this page to put on their cars. Here you can view the whole pamphlet, you can see it is an excellent general overview on what to do/not to do. You can order up to 100 at a time for free. That should hold you a while. ;)

I would definitely contact your local Safe Kids chapter or a technician in your area and try to set up a seat check event. I coordinated one at my church last year, around daycare pick up time, I passed out fliers at church, at the daycare and at Vacation Bible School... we checked close to thirty cars. It was pretty awesome. And now people know they can come to me with their car seat questions!
