Can you use the Britax Companion without the head rest?

I looked at the manual and its pretty vague. Says the recommend it for the SIP, but not that its required.

Whats the word on the street? ;)

Mine is still in the box but my sister pulled it out a couple of weeks ago so we could oogle over it :p, if memory serves me correctly (and please remember my brain is mush and I'm 33 weeks pregnant :p) I thought I saw a tag on the seat that the sip insert to not remove it.....I can't seem to talk my DH into pulling it out of the box or I'd be able to tell you for sure (I'm on bedrest so I cannot get up to do it myself...)

According to the manufacturer's instructions summary (published by SafetyBeltSafe), Britax requires the use of the Companion headrest at all times. However, the headrest is inflatable and can be adjusted to fit larger babies.

We had this discussion a while ago as well. I am not sure if it was an older model but another person had the same question. Her seat was like yours and did not say anywhere that you cannot use it, but it highly recommends that you DO use it.

That said, I would NOT feel comfortable using this seat without the headrest.

That's what they claim, but it doesn't really work very well. Sigh

The manual says one thing, the seat says another. I decided the seat trumped the manual after realizing that, which annoyed me because the headrest is awful after a few months. Neither of my kids liked it...it's great for newborns though and worked great for my preemie.

The Fisher Price infant seat was the same model, no headrest... so I'm buying the 'recommended but not required' story that I'm seeing lately. Of course a call to Britax might clear it up ;)

Hmmm. Well the seat is not mine, I have a friend on a BB that posted pics with a bundle me and an AM headrest. I wanted to make sure that I have my facts straight before talking to her about it.

My manual from 2006 says it's required, but they've since changed the wording so it doesn't sound required anymore. I called Britax to ask, and they basically said that I'd be eliminating a lot of the SIP if I removed the head support. I decided that I wouldn't remove it, but then I also decided to get a different seat next time because my son hated that head support.
