does anybody know where & how many top tethers there are? tia!

According to the LATCH manual, the Freestar has 4 tether anchors in the rear seats if it has bench seating in the second row, and some have a tether anchor on the front passenger seat, too. The Freestar's second row has tether anchors in all seating positions on the bottom rear of the seatbacks, with lower LATCH anchors spaced evenly to allow for two outboard lower LATCH anchor installations, or one center lower LATCH installation, but not three simultaneous lower LATCH installations. The third row has full LATCH (lower anchors plus a tether anchor) in the center with the tether anchor located on the bottom rear of the seatback, and no LATCH or tether anchors at all in the third row outboard seating positions. If the front passenger seat is a manual seat, it has a tether anchor on the lower back of the seat frame, but no tether anchor if it's a power seat. To connect a tether to any of the Freestar's tether anchors, you're supposed to rotate the child restraint's tether hook 1/2 twist.

I have the 04 Monterey-same thing as the Ford with 2 captains chairs and that's what I have, latch and tether anchors on back of captains and latch and tether anchor in center position in the 3rd row back seat.
