DD2's too smart!

After dropping DD1 off at preschool DD2 asked to sit in sissy's Regent. I, of course, told her no, that she was too little. She thought about it and said:
"Brenna's not bigger than me." (A friend's daughter, also 2.5 but heftier).

I assumed age and repsonded "Yep, Brenna is your size."

"I wanna sit like Brenna."

Doh! I should have seen that coming. Brenna Forward Faces. (I have told her mom the benefits but got "I am afraid she'll choke if I can't see," response.) I was at a loss for a response. I lied. I told her if she wanted to sit like Brenna she would have to sit in "mommy's" car seat with the "hard pillows." (Radian XT), that her seat only faced backwards. It's good thing she doesn't want to give up her pillows!
Sigh. They weren't even in the same car. She is too smart for her own good.

just my :twocents: - if she's old enough to notice the different seats and notice that same-age friends are FF, she's old enough to know that she's safer RF. No need to make up stories about why she's RF when you've got a perfectly good reason for keeping her that way!
You could show her the pics at http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/RFAlbum.aspx and say something like "look, here are some 4YO's who are still rear-facing, their parents know that rear-facing is safer so they're keeping them rear-facing until they're heavy enough that their seats have to be turned around"

She has looked at the pictures with me before. They are too close up for her to see that those kids are rear facing. I have shown some of the sig's here. All the little girls are her  I don't think the "safer" thing clicks yet. This isn't he first time she has asked to go FF in sissy's seat. It is just the first time she has caught me off guard with a somewhat valid argument. I usually explain that DD1 CAN'T RF, she's too big!

I know I shouldn't have lied to her and feel bad :( It will come back to bite when she does hit 35 lbs.
I'll happy take any pointers for the next time :D It seems to happen anytime we drive DD1 to to school (we normally walk).

While it's good to tell her it's safer, you know she's gonna tell Brenna. And Brenna is gonna tell her mom. So you gotta do it tactfully. Hopefully someone can give a good suggestion on how to do that cuz I'm not good at that stuff.

When my kids notice same age friends in less safe seating - I explain to them that every family makes it's own decisions but I am choosing what is safest for you.

Also, my dd has wanted to in just a seatbelt for awhile (sorry kid you've got many years before that happens) so I explained the criteria she has to meet. Every few months she climbs in an empty seat to test for herself. It is pretty cute and now it's not me saying no - she can judge herself that she can not sit right yet.
