Well, we just bought the safety (and sporty) car of my dreams-a 2009 Jetta TDI sedan (I WILL get that wagen in the future!!!). We specifically wanted rear-side impact airbags, ordered precisely the car we wanted at an unbelievable price, and then this other dealer calls to tell me that I shouldn't have airbags in the back with children!!!!!! He then proceeded to quote me some information from about 3 years ago, and sent me info about those airbags that opened from the front seats toward the back and the ones that protrude into the seating/cabin area.
Okay, just so we're clear, these are the side airbags (NOT curtain) that, when deployed, don't protrude into the cabin area at all. They deploy forward and create a cushion of air between the passenger and whatever side impact just happened. I was explained this by the dealer who sold me the car (and who I trust very much) and that they were specifically designed to be compatible with child carseats (which my child will be in until she's 80-100lbs).
I just came here to get a little assurance and more opinions from the parents who know more about car seats than anyone else!!!
Thanks for any input you can give me!
