Apex and a Captain's Chair

I was unable to get a Regent to install in a captain's chair, second row, passenger side, 2001 Toyota Sienna, belt too short, no tether. I tried the Apex, harnesses to 65 lbs. which I understand you must use the headrest, but with the headrest on, it was unable to have the back flush against the seat and the base was actually coming off the seat. This was with the chair in a full upright position. If my son's head is below the headrest, can I remove the headrest?
This was supposed to be the extra seat for a carpool.! I wanted to keep his Wizard for use in our car! However, the Wizard fits fine in the carpool van. Is there anything else I can do to make the Apex fit?

I guess I could install the Apex as our permanent in our car, but probably then I'd get the current model of the Wizard (or the Regent).

My son is at 95th plus percentile for height and weight, he is 38 lbs, and 3yrs. 3 months old.

The child's head has to be below the seat/headrest, so you have have tall seats, then yes the headrest can be removed. As soon as he is tall enough for his head to be above the seat, you'll have to put the head rest back. You might try installing it reclining the captain's seat a tiny bit and see if that helps.

Yep, you can remove the headrest with the Regent, but not the Apex -- the Regent has a strong "learning curve", but once you get your groove it usually becomes a favorite seat to install (other than the weight, LOL) ... with either the Regent or Apex, it can help a great deal to install the carseat as securely as possible with the vehicle seat back reclined & then have someone help bring it back upright for an easy extremely secure fit! The Regent is the safer choice long-term, so I'd prefer to stick with it over the Apex ;)
