Problem with Nautalus crotch strap??

We found a Nautalus at Target that we were able to put my son into to try it out. It seemed to fit great, with only one problem...

The crotch strap was too close to his body! It looked like you could move it forward a bit, but it looked like maybe only 1/2 an inch!

Anyone else have this problem? I was really liking the idea of getting one of the Nautalus instead of the Frontier due to price, but the whole crotch strap thing is a bit issue.

He's 3 years old and weighs about 40 pounds. I had posted earlier about him, he has autism, so needs the 5 point harness as long as possible, but would like it to also work as a booster for when he's able to do without the harness.

I wish there was a local place we could try out the Frontier, but none of the stores around here carry them.

Any advice on the problem we have with the Nautilus would be great!

Thanks,

The pad in the seat has to be taken out after kids are in a higher-than-the-bottom-slot, that might help a little, but otherwise, there's nothing to be done, it is what it is... not very roomy in the crotch :(. Most kids actually don't complain, even though it looks squishy, so it might be fine. The Frontier is *considerably* roomier (three settings, several inches further out than the Nautilus), I wish you could find one to try out, though :(

Ok, so he's a bigger kid.

Here's the thing. The depth does *appear* to be on the short side, but I have a 44 pound 4 year old and despite the 'shallow' depth he's entirely comfortable. He's never once complained. So just because it looks odd to us, doesn't necessarily translate to 'kid discomfort'.

Try him in it! Let him ride around. If he doesn't like it, you can return the seat and buy something else, but I wouldn't dismiss it off the cuff.
