Cheapest, safe, option for a 35 lbs 4 year old.....

a friend of mine has a son with those stats in a cosco high back, he is a smidge under the top slots. She needs a convertible as well so I'm trying to find cheapest option for her.

She is sure that she will be able to convince her dh that using the seat she has as a booster isn't a good option once he sees MO law which states that kids under 40 lbs can't use a booster.

The only seat I can think of is a nautilus. It would be a bit overkill for a child this light but none of the other harnessed seats that convert to a booster do a very good job as a booster, especially on such a skinny kid.

Nautilus or Recaro Young Sport make good boosters (not exactly cheap, sigh), everything else is pretty lame as a booster, except maybe the Apex, unfortunately.

Isn't the Apex wider though? If it is a skinny little guy, then it might be too wide to really fit well as a booster.

If you uses it with the harness past 40 lbs it might fit him better. hum.

Anyone have a picture of a skinny kid using it as a booster?

What about evenflo generation? Makes a good booster.

hum it is still on the not recommend list.

Okay I found a Kecia' blog on it, I had missed that one.
