TF install in 2008 toyota highlander

Went to go get our new TF installed for the first time by a CPS, at a store that we've used several times before.

The first snarky comment he had was the type of carseat we chose. I just tried to blow off that comment.

The 2nd comment he had was he was going to install it in the middle of the 2nd row, but it would mean that no one would be able to fit on the 2 sides of the carseat. He said that he couldnt use LATCH (well, the middle doesnt have latch), so he was going to do a belt install. We were told by a prior tech for the infant seat install that since the middle seat should not be used since its that little one that you take in and out and store in the middle when not in use.
We told him no, not to use the middle, but the outboard passenger side.
He said that LATCH was too difficult, so did a seatbelt install.

Has anyone installed in the middle seat of a highlander?

So, after all that, and we got DD into the seat, we went to do our errands. The seat is so upright, that even when she's not sleeping and slumped, that her head and top of her back dont even touch the seat.

Shall we attempt to just do it ourselves and roll a towel to try to get a recline, or go back and hope hes not there again tomorrow?

Sorry this got so long. Had to vent a little. :) Thanks in advance.

I personally would just make sure you read the manual really well and understand everything and reinstall it yourself. I have 2 TFs and it's not hard to install in my Pacifica RF or FF. I don't know about a Highlander. I have not had my seats checked because i KNOW they are installed correctly. And some CPS aren't that knowledgable anyway (just the ones on here) ;)

I too would suggest installing yourself. You probably need a rolled towel or pool noodle for the recline. Just read the whole manual first, and if you have questions, take pictures on a level surface and post them here. The techs here are very good about helping.

Thanks for the responses. We managed a rolled up towel , and got a better recline with the belt install at home. Did find ourselves close to the store with the techs again today, so stuck our head in to see who was there. We were happy to see not the same one. The tech today was the one who sold us the seat, and profusely apologized for the prior tech. He reinstalled it for us, and gave us some pool noodles that gave us an even better recline than the towel.

The person after us today, was another reinstall from the tech from yesterday too. :p
